Wedding cars are one of those details that seem simple until you start planning them — and then the questions multiply. How many cars? What time? Who goes where? Here's a straightforward guide to getting the transport right so the day runs to plan.

Start with the running order

Everything flows from the schedule. Work out the key moments and the cars fall into place:

• The arrival at the ceremony — traditionally the wedding party in the lead car, timed to arrive a few minutes after the guests.
• Ceremony to reception — the couple, then the immediate family and wedding party.
• Guests — often self-driving, but a shuttle between venues is a lovely touch if parking is tight or the venues are far apart.

How many cars?
