Bournemouth to Heathrow: Train, Coach or Taxi?

Bournemouth to Heathrow by train, coach or taxi: real prices checked October 2026, cost per person, journey times, luggage and which suits families and early flights.

·5 min read

Getting from Bournemouth to Heathrow comes down to three choices: the train, the coach, or a private transfer to the terminal door. Each one suits a different traveller. Here is an honest comparison of times, changes and luggage, so you can pick the right one for your trip.

The train: Bournemouth to Heathrow by rail

There is no direct train from Bournemouth to Heathrow. The usual way is:

  • Train from Bournemouth to Woking: about 1 hour 20 minutes on South Western Railway.
  • Coach link from Woking station to Heathrow: about 30 minutes, and it runs frequently through the day.

Allow around 2 to 2½ hours from Bournemouth station to the terminal once you add the change and the wait. The other option is the train into London Waterloo and then across London to Heathrow, which takes longer and involves more changes.

Good for: solo travellers with light luggage who live near Bournemouth station.

Watch out for: the change at Woking with suitcases, getting to Bournemouth station in the first place, and very early flights. A 6am departure from Heathrow means arriving around 3:30–4am, before the first trains run.

The coach: National Express from Bournemouth

National Express runs a direct coach from Bournemouth to Heathrow, up to about 12 times a day. The fastest journeys take around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes, depending on the time of day and the terminal.

Good for: travellers on a tight budget who don't mind fixed departure times.

Watch out for: set stops rather than your front door, timetables that can miss very early or late flights, and the coach getting stuck in the same M3 and M25 traffic as everyone else.

A private taxi or chauffeur: door to terminal

A pre-booked private transfer collects you from your door in Bournemouth and drops you at your Heathrow terminal. The run is about 92 miles and 95 minutes off-peak, with no changes. Allow more on Friday afternoons, Sunday evenings and the first days of school holidays, when the M25 can add 30–45 minutes.

Good for: families, couples with suitcases, groups, early or late flights, and anyone who wants the journey to just work.

What's included with us: a fixed price agreed before you travel (estate car from £150), the Heathrow drop-off charge, meet and greet in arrivals on the way home, live flight tracking and up to 60 minutes' free waiting after landing. Child seats are free.
